Sharks in MWDL

It is Shark Week! What can we find in MWDL about sharks?

Here is a photo of a Man standing with dead shark from Brigham Young University's incredible Edward K. Bryant Photo Collection.

Does this silverware from the University of Utah's College of Architecture and Planning collection remind you of sharks?

Jack London took photos of sharks during his voyage on the Snark! You can see more information about Jack London materials in Utah State University Special Collections in this finding aid Guide to the Jack London photograph collection 1905-1955. Then take a look at some examples from the Jack London Collection!

Fresh Metadata from Brigham Young University Library

We've had some harvesting issues with Brigham Young University, so one of my major projects in December was working with our Primo team to get fresh metadata in for all of BYU's collections. This project is now complete, and the metadata is all fresh and new! It makes me feel like MWDL has done a bit of cleaning and redecorating for 2014!

You can browse these great collections from the partner page for the Harold B. Lee Library and also the partner pages from Brigham Young University - Hawaii and Brigham Young University - Idaho

Coming up next: more new collections from a variety of partners that we'll be announcing soon. BYU also has many new collections that I'll be reviewing and adding in the coming weeks. It is great to start out 2014 with many new collections to add to the Mountain West Digital Library!

Highlighting Collections from BYU

My first big project since coming aboard to the Mountain West Digital Library was working on the Arizona Memory Project. It was very gratifying seeing our list of partners from Arizona grow as we added these valuable collections.

I never have to worry about being busy with ingesting new collections for MWDL because I have quite a long to-do list! I'm now working on ingesting some new and existing collections from BYU, and it was fun for me to be able to take a look at all the collections they offer! Some of the ones that piqued my interest personally were the John Donne Sermons (as an English major back in the day I read many John Donne poems), German Topographic Maps, French Political Pamphlets, Letters of Philip II, King of Spain, Mormon Missionary Diaries, and the Eisenhower Communiques.
