Happy New Year from the Mountain West Digital Library!

The MWDL has plenty of fun digital collections that highlight New Year's celebrations! Take a trip to Kyoto and see some of the New Year's customs documented in the Marriott Library's Lennox and Catherine Tierney Photograph Collection. UNLV has a variety of New Year's Eve Dinner menus to browse.
UNLV Reno Special Collections has a great circa 1906 New Year's postcard from their Reno Postcards collection.

Updated MWDL LibGuide

We have recently made several prominent changes to the MWDL LibGuide.  Some of the best new features include an updated documents section, additional helpful information on searching in MWDL, an FAQ page, and links to our blog and social media sites.  In addition, the guide will soon include a tutorial video demonstrating best practices for searching on the MWDL website.  If you or your institution uses springshare LibGuides, feel free to incorporate the information from the MWDL LibGuide as needed.  Check the guide often for more updates!

MWDL Ingestion To Do List

I often say that I never have to worry about being busy with my job as Digital Metadata Librarian for the Mountain West Digital library, because in addition to the work being rewarding and interesting,  I am also working my way through quite a long to do list of new collections and repositories to test, add, harvest, and perform metadata audits on. To give everyone a sense of current and upcoming projects, I've put together a page detailing the current MWDL Ingestion Queue

If you have any questions about this list, let me know!

Winter Webinar Series Off to a Strong Start

Last Tuesday, MWDL hosted the first in a nine-part Winter Webinar Series, and it's safe to say that we are off to a strong start! Twenty-one people logged in to hear about "Partnering with the Mountain West Digital Library." We had participants from the East Coast curious to hear if there are comparable collaborations in their region (there are!) as well as local digital libraries looking to either start digitization projects or open up their collections to MWDL. Both of our new Memory Project partners, Richard Prouty and Jennifer Birnel, were there to hear about what is going on with MWDL as well as longtime MWDL supporters like Cheryl Walters, Catherine McIntyre, and Kristen Jensen. Thanks to everyone for the support!

Sandra and I are looking forward to the next topic in the Winter Webinar Series, "MWDL as a Service Hub for the Digital Public Library of America: Updates and Plans." We hope to see many of you there with questions about our new national digital library.
